Simple cough medicice may cure cancer
A simple cough medicine has been found to help cure prostate cancer. Cough medicines containing the natural ingredient noscapine which is found in cabbage and tomatoes can stop the growth of tumours. Read the following article:
An ingredient used in cough medicine for more than 50 years could be a powerful new treatment for prostate cancer.
Noscapine, a drug derived from opium, has been found to stunt tumour growth and reduce the risk of cancer spreading by up to 65 per cent.
Now other studies are under way to see if it could help fight cancer of the breast, lungs and ovaries, as well as lymphoma - a tumour that affects the lymph nodes under the arm.
Although the drugs anti-cancer properties were first recognised back in the Sixties, in-depth studies have only taken place in recent years as drug companies have stepped up the search for new and powerful cancer treatments.
The drug is used in over-thecounter products, such as Vicks Dry Cough medicine, because it is highly effective at stopping coughs.
Although opium is the main source of noscapine, it is also found in tiny quantities in tomatoes and cabbage leaves.
The latest findings, by U.S. scientists, were presented at a recent prostate cancer conference in Colorado.
Experts at the Prostate Cancer Research and Educational Foundation in San Diego carried out laboratory tests to verify the drugs ability to fight cancer.
Mice were fed doses of the drug and their cancers were closely monitored to see what effect the cough-syrup ingredient had.
Study leader Dr Israel Barken, who claims to have been using noscapine on prostate cancer patients for more than a decade, said the results confirmed the drug was effective and safe.

Kill Cancer with Soursop
Besides useful as a juice, soursop apparently has many benefits for health. One way to overcome cancer. Never underestimate the soursop fruit. Although so far only be consumed in the form of juice, but the benefits of soursop is extraordinary.

Of research scientists, soursop is good to maintain and overcome health problems. Such as heart problems, liver, asthma, arthritis and the most astonishing soursop can handle various types of cancer.
Anticancer
Soursop plant parts, including leaves and fruits, contains a compound that is quite valuable, such as fructose, fat, protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B. Secondary metabolites contained in it is a compound class of tannins, phytosterols and alkaloids.
A compound that attracted the attention of researchers is asetogenin. This is a specific compound contained in the plant tribe Annonaceae, which is closely related to the efficacy of anti-tumor activity, anti-bacterial and insecticide.
From the research, asetogenin contained in soursop can be used to hit the colon cancer cells, pancreatic, ovarian, colon, breast, liver, cervix.
Another study with animal experiments do suggest the presence of antioxidant activity of compounds content of soursop. If that is true, then surely one anti-cancer properties associated with the ability of the compound to protect healthy cells from damage that triggers cancer attacks.
In traditional Indian medicine system Ayurveda, soursop has a formidable reputation as an anticancer. Support studies show, the leaves of this plant contains compounds called bullatasin asetogenin of Annona other fruit crops, namely Annona atemoya.
This compound was found to induce apoptosis. Asetogenin other compounds, namely murisin, murikatetrosin, longifolisin, korossolin and korossolan proven to provide positive results as a cytotoxic against tumor cells.
Coping with diabetes
One application of interest to researchers is to control the rise in blood sugar levels of diabetes alias. This type of research to prove efficacy as an anti-diabetic is quite varied so that the mechanism of action is slowly beginning to be revealed.
A study conducted to prove the mechanism of action of antidiabetic soursop leaf extract proved the presence of regenerating pancreatic islet cells in mice. The results were encouraging, the use of leaf extracts can improve the function of insulin-producing glands as necessary diabetics.
Processing and Use
A simple way to consume soursop fruit is a fruit that has been peeled soften, remove the seeds and strain by adding water little by little. Screening results can then be directly consumed by the addition of a little honey to overcome the sour taste.
The addition of sugar and honey is not recommended in patients with diabetes, and therefore must try to love the original flavor of soursop fruit. For people who experience stomach upset, it is advisable to fill the stomach beforehand to prevent the disease.
Pregnant and nursing women should not be eating soursop leaf stew, but it eat soursop fruit taste still allowed. *

Smoking Tied to One Type of Skin Cancer
Smoking may not only cause wrinkles and sagging skin, it might also increase your risk of one type of skin cancer, researchers suggest in a new report.
Studies have linked smoking to a long list of health effects, including heart disease and lung cancer, but the evidence has been mixed for skin cancer.
More than 3.5 million cases of the disease are found every year in the U.S., making it the most common of all cancers. While the two main forms -- basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma -- are rarely deadly, researchers say they are on the rise.
In a new study, Fiona Bath-Hextall of the University of Nottingham in England and colleagues pooled the available evidence on the link between tobacco and basal and squamous cell cancers, which start in the outer layer of the skin.
Based on 14 previous studies, smokers didnt appear to have higher rates of basal cell cancer. But they did have a 52-percent increase in their risk of squamous cell cancer, based on six studies that varied in size, duration and design.
That extra risk is similar to that of ultraviolet radiation, the most well-known risk factor for squamous cell cancer, according to a commentary published along with the new results in the Archives of Dermatology.
But the commentary, by Dr. Joris Verkouteren and Dr. Tamar Nijsten at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, also warns that the six studies were relatively small and were not necessarily comparable.
Because all of the studies are based on observations, its impossible to say for certain whether smoking caused the increase in skin cancer risk. While current smokers had a higher risk than former smokers, there was no link with the number of cigarettes smoked per day or how long a person had been smoking.
NO HIGHER RISK OF MELANOMA
Still, the researchers believe its likely that tobacco causes basal cell skin cancer, and Bath-Hextall called the findings "another good reason to give up smoking."
In an email to Reuters Health, she said people should regularly check their skin for early skin cancer. She added that doctors should "actively survey" people at high risk of squamous cell cancer such as smokers.
Oddly, smokers dont seem to be at increased risk for melanoma. In fact, some studies have suggested they might even have a smaller chance of getting the disease -- although scientists are still trying to figure out if thats really true.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a government-backed expert panel, says there is too little data to balance the harms and benefits of skin cancer screening.
However, the task force recommends counseling fair-skinned children and young adults aged 10 to 24 years about cutting back on ultraviolet radiation -- whether from the sun or indoor tanning -- to reduce their risk of skin cancer.
While squamous and basal cell carcinomas are the most common skin cancer, melanoma is the deadliest, accounting for nearly 9,000 of the 12,000 or so skin cancer deaths each year in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society.
